End of Tenancy Cleaning Checklist for Isle of Wight Homes

A good end of tenancy clean starts with an agreed checklist, an accessible property and enough time before the handover. This guide helps Isle of Wight tenants, landlords and letting agents explain what needs cleaning and prepare for a quote. It describes tasks to discuss, rather than a promise that every task is included in every clean. Isle Shine confirms the work, price and availability before booking.

Start with the property’s condition and your priorities

Gather the relevant inventory, checkout notes or agent’s cleaning checklist, together with recent photographs. Separate cleaning from damage, missing items and repairs: a cleaner can remove suitable surface dirt, but cannot restore worn finishes, replace broken fittings or reverse permanent staining. If different people are paying for different work, identify their items before asking for separate quotes. Tell us which rooms and appliances need attention and which areas are outside the request.

Kitchen checklist

Check the worktops, sink, taps, splashbacks, cupboard fronts, handles and accessible surfaces for grease, food deposits and marks. Include the inside of cupboards and drawers only where requested and emptied. Photograph heavy grease around the hob and extractor so the time required can be assessed. Confirm whether the extractor filters, microwave and other appliances need cleaning; do not assume that listing a kitchen automatically includes every appliance or dismantling.

For a fridge or freezer, remove food and allow time for safe defrosting before the visit where necessary. Tell us about any appliance that cannot be switched off or moved. Oven cleaning should be named separately in the request, including the oven type and condition. Cleaning between door glass depends on the appliance and safe access; it should be discussed in advance rather than treated as an automatic part of a general kitchen clean.

Bathrooms, shower rooms and toilets

List each bathroom, en-suite and separate WC. Check the toilet, basin, bath, shower tray, taps, shower screen, accessible tiles and mirrors. Photographs of limescale, soap deposits or discolouration help us assess the work. Descaling may improve suitable surfaces, but etching, damaged coatings and deteriorated sealant are different problems. Explain any delicate finishes or previous damage before products are selected. Include an extra downstairs toilet in the room count so it is allowed for in the quote.

Bedrooms, living rooms and hallways

Check reachable shelves, skirting boards, door surfaces, handles, switches and other agreed surfaces for dust and marks. Explain whether the property is furnished and which items will remain. Clear personal belongings and small items so the team can reach the areas included in the clean. Heavy furniture moving is excluded. If furniture must stay in place, agree what can be reached around it. Linen and bedding changes are excluded, so arrange those separately if they are needed for the next occupier.

Internal windows, blinds and glass

Identify the internal windows, glass doors, sills and blinds you want included. Mention high windows, awkward access and delicate blinds before the quote is confirmed. These details affect both the method and the time required. External window cleaning is a separate request and is not included unless specifically agreed. Do not assume that damaged glazing, condensation between sealed panes or permanent marks can be corrected through routine cleaning.

Carpets and hard floors

State whether carpets need vacuuming only or professional carpet cleaning. Carpet extraction is a separately priced extra when requesting an end of tenancy clean. Give the number of rooms or areas, including stairs and landings, and mention stains, pet accidents, odours and any known fibre type. For Isle Shine’s carpet-cleaning guide prices, the minimum call-out is £80, with £50 for the first room-sized area and £30 for each additional area. Stairs and their landing together count as one area; unusual layouts need confirmation.

The cleaning method depends on the carpet, its condition and the work required. Some marks or odours can remain, particularly where there is permanent damage or contamination below the carpet. Allow for drying and follow the aftercare given. For hard floors, identify the surface and any restrictions; polishing, restoration or repairs should not be assumed to be part of an ordinary floor clean.

Arrange access and the order of work

Aim to have removals and dusty building work finished before the final clean. Confirm who supplies the keys, where the team can park, which floor the property is on and whether there are stairs or restricted access. Make sure the agreed water and power supplies are available. Give us the actual checkout or handover deadline as well as your preferred cleaning date. Our normal hours are Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, and appointments are subject to availability. An enquiry does not reserve a slot.

Work that needs a separate arrangement

Remove rubbish and unwanted possessions before the visit. Rubbish clearance, repairs, refits, hoarding or biohazard work and professional mould remediation are outside our cleaning scope. If you are concerned about mould, describe it and provide photographs before booking; a light surface wipe is different from identifying and treating an underlying problem. Flag anything unsafe or inaccessible so it can be discussed before the team arrives.

What to include in your quote request

Send the postcode, property size, number of bathrooms and separate WCs, furnished or unfurnished status, photographs and your room-by-room priorities. Name any oven, fridge/freezer, internal windows, blinds or carpet extraction you require. Explain access, the preferred date and the handover deadline. A clear request helps us quote the actual work instead of relying on a room count alone. End of tenancy prices depend on condition and agreed scope; Isle Shine is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clean guarantee the return of a deposit? No. Cleaning is one part of a property handover, and Isle Shine cannot decide the outcome of a deposit or tenancy dispute. We can provide a quote for the agreed cleaning work and explain its limits.

Can you clean only the items listed by an agent? Tell us exactly which items you want quoted and send the relevant notes. We can assess that request and distinguish it from additional work a landlord wants completed. Responsibility for payment should be agreed before booking.

Do you cover my part of the island? We welcome enquiries from Ryde, Newport, Cowes, East Cowes, Bembridge, Seaview, St Helens, Brading, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Freshwater, Totland and Yarmouth, subject to availability. Include the postcode so access and scheduling can be checked.

Request an end of tenancy cleaning quote

Use the quote form to send your requirements or call 01983 811648. If the scope changes after the quote, tell us before the visit so we can confirm any effect on the price or time needed. Keep the final agreed checklist available for the handover.
