Urine Stains and Odours in Carpets: What Cleaning Can Achieve

Urine staining and persistent smells need a careful assessment before treatment. Isle Shine Limited takes enquiries for carpet cleaning across the Isle of Wight, including carpets affected by pet accidents. The suitable approach depends on the carpet, the affected area and the history of the problem.

A visible mark and an odour are different problems

A mark on the surface does not reveal how far a spillage has travelled. Prochem’s technical guidance explains that urine may cause permanent dye loss and can damage wool or nylon. Cleaning cannot put lost dye back into a carpet.

Prochem also notes that urine can reach the underlay or subfloor. Cleaning the carpet surface alone may therefore leave a source of odour underneath. If more extensive work is needed, we discuss that before agreeing the scope; a standard carpet clean does not automatically include lifting carpets or replacing underlay.

What to tell us before requesting a quote

Tell us whether the problem is recent or recurring, roughly how large an area is affected, and whether you know the carpet fibre. Explain any previous cleaning attempts, including products used and whether the smell returned after drying. A room photograph and close-ups of the affected area help us understand the enquiry.

How we approach the enquiry

We discuss the condition and your priorities, assess suitability and explain the proposed work. Where treatment is appropriate, the product and method must suit the carpet and the problem. We do not promise that one fixed sequence will remove every urine stain or eliminate every odour.

The aim is to improve the carpet where it is practical to do so, with clear expectations about permanent staining, damage and contamination beneath it. Drying arrangements and any further assessment should be discussed for the particular job.

Pricing and next steps

Our carpet-cleaning minimum call-out is £80. Describe the affected areas when enquiring so we can confirm the work and price. Specialist treatment or work outside a standard clean must be agreed separately.
